
Connor, Inskeep Take Third at AVCA Collegiate Beach Championships

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Playing in a tournament against the top pairs in collegiate beach volleyball, Cal Poly’s Ella Connor and Erin Inskeep took third place Sunday at the AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championships in Huntsville, Ala.
In the third place match Sunday, Connor and Inskeep took down TCU’s Natalie Glenn and Anhelina Khmil 21-15, 21-16 to take home the bronze. The path to getting there started Friday, with Connor and Inskeep taking down pairs from UT-Martin and Florida International.
In the round of 16 on Saturday, they beat Florida State’s Alexis Durish and Audrey Rothman in straight sets. They then swept Arizona State’s Ava Kirunchyk and Samaya Morin to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, they came up just short to the eventual champions of the event in Long Beach State’s Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah. The match went to a deciding third set where the Mustang duo lost in dramatic fashion, 15-13.
Also competing in the event for the Mustangs was Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter, who reached the round of 16 of the 64-pair bracket before falling to Glenn and Kmil from TCU, who Connor and Inskeep beat Sunday. Prior to that, Martinez and Walter beat pairs from Hawai’i and South Carolina.
