SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Three second-half goals powered the Cal Poly women's soccer team to a commanding 3-1 road victory over Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night at Harder Stadium in the Big West opener for both sides.
Thanks to the win, the Mustangs (2-3-2) currently sit atop the conference table.
A trio of players netted multiple points in the match to guide Cal Poly to its third consecutive victory over the Gauchos — senior Kate Reedy (pictured above) and sophomores Jessie Halladay and Emily Lieber.
Senior McKenna Carbon opened the scoring in the 54th minute. Lieber played a cross from the right into the 6-yard box that found Reedy in front. The forward played a ball back to Carbon, who hammered a shot with her right foot to the back of the net to tally her third career goal and first of the season. For Reedy, it was her first career assist.

Just seven minutes later, Reedy buried a goal of her own as Halladay threaded a perfect pass through the midfield to her and Reedy did the rest, sliding a shot from just outside the 18-yard box past the UCSB goalkeeper. The tally was Reedy's second of the season and the sixth of her career.

The Mustangs continued their goal barrage in the 74th minute as Halladay got a touch on a dangerous cross by Lieber into the box to net her third goal of the season and earn her eighth point of the year.

Lieber finished with two assists on the night and now has three on the season, tied for the fourth most in the Big West. Freshman Annika Smith also earned an assist on Halladay's goal to secure her first collegiate point.
UCSB (2-3-4) scored in the 80th minute to avoid being shut out by the Mustangs for the second straight season.
In the 13th minute, Smith nearly struck gold blasting a shot from outside the box toward the top center of the net that the UCSB goalkeeper barely got a touch on. It was the first shot on goal of the match.
In the 24th minute, junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Samuel stepped out and made a fantastic kick save to deny UCSB's leading goal scorer Lauren Helwig. Samuel finished with two saves on the night while facing 13 shots.
The Mustangs fired nine shots, putting six on frame.
Freshman defender Siena Urzua, a Santa Barbara native, also earned her first career start in the match.
The Mustangs return home at noon Sunday to host Pacific at Mustang Memorial Field Presented by French Hospital. The team will honor its six seniors prior to the match.
