COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman Louis Pilod followed an opening-round 68 with a second-day 69 on Monday to grab a share of first place at Air Force's 54th annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational and the Cal Poly men's golf team improved by five overall strokes, but still slipped from third to fifth at the 24-program event.
With the Falcon Invitational comprising both a team and individual competition on the Eisenhower Golf Course, Pilod's 69 placed his two-day total at a seven-under, 137 and moved the Lyon, France native into a first-place tie alongside Wofford's Neal Davis (72-65) and Northern Colorado's TJ Shehee (66-71).
Mustang freshman Reese Sato also shot 69 Monday to move into a tie for seventh at three-under, 141 in the individual competition with South Dakota's Nick LaMotte. Sitting one shot better in sixth is Mustang graduate student Austin Liu (69-71-140).
In the team completion, graduate student Ben Quick (71-68-139) and junior Jackson Parrish (71-70-141) both broke par once again with the former moving into fourth place and the latter seventh. Both juniors Parker Mapes (76-74-150, t-58th) and Baron Szeto (78-73-151) improved upon their opening-day scores while senior Joey Zambri (72-75-147) sits in a tie for 36th heading into Tuesday final round.
