Pilod Debuts with 68; Cal Poly Third at Air Force Falcon Invite

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman Louis Pilod fired an opening-day 68 to complete his first collegiate round while graduate student Austin Liu (above) finished with a 69 during the individual competition as the Cal Poly men's golf program – sitting third in the team portion of Air Force's 54th annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational – opened the 2023-24 season Sunday afternoon at the Eisenhower Golf Course.
With the Falcon Invitational comprising both a team and individual competition, Pilod's 68 on the par-72 Silver Course placed him in second place and two shots behind Northern Colorado's TJ Shehee on the individual leaderboard. Liu, meanwhile, sits tied for third place while Cal Poly's third individual entry – freshman Reese Sato – shot an even-par 72 to finish day No. 1 in a four-way tie for 10th place.
On the Eisenhower Blue Course – 7,511 yards compared to the 6,402 Silver – junior Jackson Parrish and grad student Ben Quick co-led Cal Poly's third-place effort with one-under 71s to sit in 10th place. Senior Joey Zambri followed with an even-par 72 for a 16th-place tie while junior Parker Mapes shot a 76 (t-58th) and junior Baron Szeto a 78 (t-89th).
Cal Poly resumes Falcon Invitational action on Monday, Sept. 11 with round No. 2 beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT.
