SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis program added another talented prospect to its 2023-24 roster Monday, announcing Natalie Lynch, a Mater Dei High School product, will be joining the team.
Lynch (Corona, Calif.) is the third and final newcomer for the Mustangs, joining transfers Romane Mosse (Viroflay, France / Jacksonville State) and Amy Leather (Bath, England / Tulsa). Lynch is Cal Poly's only incoming freshman and women's tennis head coach Ellie Edles Williams is thrilled to have her on the team.
"We are excited to welcome Natalie to the program," Williams said. "Natalie has had a lot of success, especially in doubles, during her high school and junior tennis career. She is a great team player, and we are looking forward to having her as a Mustang."
This past season as a senior at Mater Dei, Lynch helped the Monarchs capture their first CIF State SoCal Championship and the CIF Southern Section title. The four-time All-Trinity League First Team selection also won the CIF-SS doubles championship with teammate Chloe Vu.
Lynch, ranked as a four-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, captured the singles and doubles title at the 2022 USTA SoCal Women's Open in Palos Verdes.
Lynch, the 2023 Mater Dei Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, won three Trinity League doubles titles during her high school career and led the Monarchs to league championships as a sophomore, junior and senior.
Lynch, a two-time All-Orange County First Team selection, served as a team captain for Mater Dei for two years (2021-22) and was an honors student throughout high school. She was a member of the school's ASB and part of the National Honor Society for four years.
Lynch's father, George, competed on the football and track and field teams at UCLA from 1988-89. She said her father has had a huge impact on her athletic career.
"He has taught me the mindset and has driven me my whole life to be the student-athlete I am today," Lynch said. "… He has constantly inspired me to be the best athlete and supported my tennis journey."
Lynch, who plans on majoring in business administration, chose Cal Poly because the school offered it all, from great academics to an amazing team and coach.
