SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women's tennis head coach Ellie Edles Williams announced the first member of her 2023-24 signing class Wednesday, adding talented transfer Romane Mosse to the team for the upcoming season.
Mosse, who grew up in Viroflay, France, is a transfer from Jacksonville State University with two years of eligibility left beginning this fall.
"We are extremely excited to have Romane joining our program this fall," Williams said. "Romane has had a lot of success playing high in the lineup in both singles and doubles for Jacksonville State, and we are looking forward to seeing her compete as a Mustang."
Across two seasons and 42 matches at JSU, Mosse led the Gamecocks to new heights as one of their top players. During her sophomore year this spring, posted a 13-8 singles record and a 9-7 doubles mark over 22 duals, helping Jacksonville State secure its most victories in a season since 2013 (15-8 overall) and its first win in a postseason tournament in a decade when they took down North Alabama in the first round of the ASUN Tournament.
While playing at the No. 1 spot for the Gamecocks in 2023, Mosse was 6-1 in singles and 9-6 in doubles, and finished third on the team in singles victories.
During her first season at JSU in 2021-22, Mosse appeared in all 20 matches, posting an 8-9 overall record in singles and playing doubles in 19 duals. She earned her first collegiate singles victory on Feb. 6, 2022, against New Orleans.
Mosse, who is majoring in business management, had an outstanding junior career in France, winning countless titles and playing for the French Championship in her age group on several occasions. Mosse attended Lycée Passy Saint Honoré in Paris and played matches in one of the best divisions in the French League, emerging victorious in most of them.
Mosse, who aspires to be a professional tennis player and work some of the biggest sporting events in the world such as the U.S. Open, said she transferred to Cal Poly because it's the perfect place to continue her "American experience" while playing high-level tennis and challenging herself academically.
