SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The premiere regular season college beach volleyball event in the country is getting even bigger this year. This Friday and Saturday, April 14 & 15, Cal Poly will host seven nationally ranked teams, five that are ranked in the top six in the nation, at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for the fourth annual Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge. This year's COE format will be a bit different than years past. This year, there will be two pools of four teams. Each team will play the three others that are in their pool and based on results, the fourth place team in pool A will play the fourth place team in pool B, third place in Pool A will be third place in Pool B, second place in Pool A will face second place in Pool B, and the championship match will pit the winners of each pool against each other.
Pool 'A' will consist of Cal Poly, No. 1 TCU, No. 3 UCLA, and No. 19 Pepperdine. Pool 'B' will feature No. 2 USC, No. 4 Florida State, No. 6 LMU, and No. 11 Long Beach State. Each team will play two matches each day.
On Friday, the Mustangs will face No. 1 TCU at 1:45 p.m. and No. 19 Pepperdine at 6:45 p.m. Friday will also be senior night with seven Mustangs being honored in a ceremony prior to the start of the match against Pepperdine.
