Five Mustang Basketball Players Earn Big West All-Academic Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Four selections from the Mustang women's basketball program and Trevon Taylor Jr. from the Mustang men's basketball team were among Cal Poly's 2022-23 Big West Winter All-Academic honorees Tuesday.
Alongside Taylor, Cal Poly women's basketball program's selections include junior Natalia Ackerman, sophomore Sydney Bourland, redshirt freshman Maia Garcia, and senior Maddie Willett.
Willett, who finished her career this season ranking 30th in program history for career points, earned her third straight Big West All-Academic selection. Willett was Cal Poly's third leading scorer this season at 6.9 points per game. She is set to earn her master's degree in Business Analytics this June.
Ackerman, Cal Poly's leading rebounder this season at 6.1 per game, earned the first Big West All-Academic selection of her career. She is working towards a degree in Kinesiology.
Bourland, who started all 28 games this season and was the Mustangs' leader in minutes, garnered her first Big West All-Academic selection. The sophomore is majoring in Business Administration.
Garcia, who played in 16 games and made seven starts, also recorded her first Big West All-Academic selection. She is majoring in Psychology.
Taylor, who led the Mustang men's team in rebounding this season and was tied for third in scoring at 8.2 points per game, earned his first Big West All-Academic selection while working towards a Comparative Ethnic Studies degree he will receive in June.
