
Mustang Player Profile: Annika Shah

Annika Shah is a sophomore guard for the Cal Poly women's basketball tem from Palo Alto, Calif. This season, she leads the team in scoring and assists.
Q: What do you credit having been able to take on a bigger role this season and have success?
Annika: There are many factors that have contributed into this opportunity of taking on a bigger role this season, but ultimately, I would credit the strong work ethic I have installed in me. No matter what my role is for the team, I will continue to be the hardest worker.
Q: What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
Annika: The best advice I have been told is that my life goal should be to represent something greater than myself. This is what I aspire to do in basketball. I am on the path of doing something different, but I have the ability to inspire others and represent something greater than just myself.
Q: Who are some of your role models as a basketball player?
Annika: Sabrina Ionescu, Steph Curry, Magic Johnson, Muggsy Bogues, and Isaiah Thomas.
Q: What are things you like to do outside of basketball?
Annika: Outside of basketball I love to hang out with my friends, go on adventures, play the guitar, and go on hikes.
Q: What artist/band have you been listening to most lately?
Annika: I am always listening to Drake or Kanye. Right now, my go-to song is WAIT FOR U (feat. Drake & Tems) by Future.
Q: What has been your favorite part of living in SLO?
Annika: Some of my favorite parts about living in SLO is the amazing weather, the access of the beach and hikes in the mountains, and how I am still somewhat close to home.
Q: What's your dream career you hope to do after graduating?
Annika: I would love to continue playing basketball as long as I can following my collegiate career. Though, I also have a passion for sports marketing, and I would love to work for high level sports companies or organizations.
Q: What's something about yourself that people don't know that might surprise them?
Annika: Everyone is always surprised that I am a vegetarian.
Q: If you could have dinner with any three people - alive or dead - who would it be?
Annika: Muhammad Ali, Steph Curry, and Kevin Hart
Q: What's the last great TV show or movie you watched?
Annika: I just watched DEAD TO ME on Netflix and highly recommend it.
