Four in Double Figures as Cal Poly Opens Big West Play with Road Victory Over CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Cal Poly women's basketball made a statement to open Big West play Thursday night as four players scored in double figures to help lead the Mustangs to a 68-43 road win over CSUN.Natalia Ackerman led the Mustangs (5-6, 1-0 BW) with 15 points in addition to nine rebounds as she shot 5-7 from the field. Junior guard Annika Shah continued her strong offensive season, scoring 14 points for her fourth straight game of double-digit points.
Redshirt freshman forward Sierra Lichtie and freshman forward Mary Carter each added 12 points for Cal Poly, who outrebounded the Matadors (2-9, 0-1 BW) 51-24, including 18 offensive rebounds which the Mustangs turned into 12 second chance points.
After going down 7-2 to CSUN to begin the game, Cal Poly responded with a 21-5 run to go up by 11. The Mustangs opened the second quarter with another big run, this time a 12-2 scoring difference to push their lead up to 18. They led 35-19 at the half.
CSUN got within 11 with two minutes left in the third quarter. However, the Mustangs pushed it back up to 17 heading into the fourth and as much as 26 later in the fourth quarter.
Cal Poly will return home to face UC Davis Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center. The Mustangs will be seeking to snap a 15-game losing skid to the Aggies.
