Ponder Named FCS Football Central Third-Team All-American

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Already named First Team All-Big Sky last month, Cal Poly junior defensive end Elijah Ponder added to his accolades Monday when he was named an FCS Football Central All-American.
Ponder was named a Third-Team All-American on their list after having an outstanding 2023 season. Ponder led the Big Sky and ranked top-five in the nation in sacks with 10. His 10 sacks are the first double-digit total by a Mustang since 2005 and the ninth highest total in program single season history.
He finished second on the team in tackles with 52, including 13 for loss. He started the season against San Diego with season-highs of nine tackles and three sacks. He now ranks seventh all-time in program history for career sacks with 19.5.
FCS Football Central was formed this year after a merger between Sports Illustrated/Fan Nation and The Bluebloods. This is the first national postseason honor for Ponder with more All-American teams to be announced in the coming weeks by different outlets.
