Daschle Lamer Claims Title, Five Others Place at Roadrunner Open

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Freshman Daschle Lamer captured the 174-pound title to highlight action for Cal Poly wrestling during the Roadrunner Open hosted by Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday.
Lamer was one of six Mustangs that placed at the tournament.
In the second appearance of his collegiate career, Lamer dominated his competition en route to claiming first at 174 pounds. The Corvallis, Oregon native posted a perfect 4-0 record, securing victories by fall, technical fall and major decision before downing Cal Baptist's Justin Phillips by a 5-0 decision in the championship bout. Lamer, who made his Cal Poly debut at the Tiger Style Invite on Nov. 11, improved to 6-3 on the season.
Redshirt sophomore Cole Jackson secured a second-place finish at 285 pounds, winning his first two matches by major decision and grabbing a 4-1 decision in his semifinal bout. He fell in a hard-fought championship match 4-2.
Freshmen Blake Hinrichsen (174) and Tyler Hodges (197) each earned fourth-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Hinrichsen posted two wins by technical fall and Hodges pinned two of his opponents.
Redshirt freshman Koda Holeman took fifth at 125 pounds and redshirt freshman Luke Meyer secured fifth at 285 to round out the wrestlers that placed for the Mustangs.
Cal Poly returns to action on Dec. 1-2 to wrestle in the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas. The Mustangs will encounter some of the best teams in the country at the 41st edition of the tournament.
