SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Sixteen of the top 25 wrestling programs in the country, including No. 18 Cal Poly, will descend upon the Westgate Las Vegas Resort this Friday and Saturday to compete in the 41st Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

The loaded two-day tournament will serve as an early season litmus test for some of the top programs in the country stand. The field includes seven of the top 10 teams in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll — No. 2 NC State, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Cornell, No. 7 Michigan, No. 8 Iowa State, No. 9 Nebraska and No. 10 Virginia Tech.

Ranked wrestlers will be all over the mat and the Mustangs, who enter the event at No. 18 in the FloWrestling Team Tournament rankings, are eager to make some noise and turn some heads.

Action inside the Westgate Paradise Event Center starts at 9 a.m. Friday, with quarterfinals set for 6 p.m. on that day. Wrestling resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday with championship finals scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. The entirety of the tournament will be streamed live on FloWrestling.

This week will mark the eighth straight season Cal Poly has competed in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, with its best team finish in that time coming just two years ago when they placed 10th. Nebraska has captured the team title at the last three tournaments.

10 Mustangs will compete in this year's tournament, including four who are ranked — No. 5 Chance Lamer (149 pounds), No. 6 Adam Kemp (174 pounds), No. 27 Legend Lamer (157 pounds) and No. 31 Dom Mendez (125 pounds). Last year during his redshirt freshman season at Michigan, Chance placed seventh at 149 pounds at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. In 2021, Kemp secured sixth at 174 pounds and Legend grabbed seventh at 149 pounds.
