Cal Poly Falls to Unbeaten Portland State Saturday at Lancer Joust

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Senior guard Kobe Sanders and freshman guard Quentin Jones both scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, but Cal Poly fell Saturday to Portland State 73-57 in its second game of the Lancer Joust in Riverside.
Sanders finished with a season-high 20 points, his fifth straight double digit scoring game. Jones put in 13 points on 5-11 shooting, a day after scoring a season-high 17 points in the Mustangs' win Friday.
Cal Poly shot 41 percent from three for the game, going 7-17, with just nine turnovers. However, the Mustangs shot 30 percent from the field in the first half, trailing 35-22 at the half.
The Vikings (4-0) had four players score in double figures as they too shot 41 percent from three and 45 percent from the field.
Portland State extended their lead to 25 with 14 minutes left in the second half. The Mustangs cut the lead down to 14 with three minutes left in the game but were unable to draw any closer.
The Mustangs will wrap up the Lancer Joust Sunday against tournament host California Baptist. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
