FIRST ROUND SCORES: TEAM | INDIVIDUAL
CARMEL VALLEY – Junior Baron Szeto (above) sits just two shots off the lead at three-under par following first-round play at the Cal Poly Invitational as the Mustangs – as a team – completed Monday's shortened schedule at The Preserve in ninth at even par.
With the first two of three rounds and 36 holes scheduled for Monday, early-morning frost forced an hour delay off the tees. Players completed the first round, began the second and will finish those remaining holes Tuesday morning before starting the third round.
Szeto, tied for sixth overall, produced an eagle on the par-5 17th hole, three birdies and just two bogeys for his three-under 69. Oregon's Nate Stember and USC's Nicolas Dominguez lead the field with five-under 67s.
Cal Poly's remaining player under par was junior Jackson Parrish, whose opening round featured four birdies. Parrish entered the second round tied for 22nd.
Mustang Graduate student Ben Quick and senior Joey Zambri sit in 39th with two-over par 74s while graduate student Austin Liu is 77th with an opening-round 79.
Playing as individuals, junior Parker Mapes and freshman Louis Pilod are in 61st position with four-over 76s while freshman Reese Sato is 83rd following an 82.
As a team, Cal Poly's even par 288 after the first round has the Mustangs just eight shots behind Oregon.
