Smith and Weststrate Advance to Round of 16 at ITA Southwest Regionals

MALIBU, Calif. — After winning their doubles match on Thursday to advance to the Round of 32, Cal Poly men's tennis' tandem of junior Bastiaan Weststrate and senior Colter Smith won again on Friday to move on to the Round of 16 at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in Malibu.
Friday in the round of 32, Smith and Weststrate beat Loyola Marymount's duo of Nicolas Pesoli and Max Wuelfing 8-3 to advance to the Round of 16.
However, the Mustang duo's run came to end in the Round of 16 Friday after coming up just short against USC's Wojtek Marek and Samuel Rubell. The match went to a tiebreaker that couldn't have been any closer as USC's duo took the tiebreak 8-6.
Cal Poly's next event will be the ITA Intercollegiate Championships in Los Angeles which run Oct. 26-29.
