SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis program announced the final addition to its 2022-23 roster Tuesday as Sarah MacCallum, a Laguna Beach High product, is set to join the Mustangs for their upcoming season.
MacCallum (Laguna Beach, Calif.) is one of three talented incoming freshmen for the Mustangs, joining Kennedy Buntrock (Henderson, Nev.) and Sasha Ozerets (Mission Viejo, Calif.).
"I am extremely excited to have Sarah," first-year Cal Poly women's tennis head coach Ellie Edles Williams said. "She is a very hard worker, a phenomenal student and will be a great addition to our program. Sarah is a very talented player who brings a lot of doubles expertise."
MacCallum had a stellar prep career for the Breakers, helping Laguna Beach capture four straight Sunset League titles (2018-21) and earning the Sunset League singles championship three times.
A four-time Laguna Beach team MVP, MacCallum won the 2019 CIF Southern Section doubles championship alongside Ella Pachl, who is currently a junior on the UC San Diego women's tennis team.
This past season, MacCallum, ranked as a four-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, claimed the Sunset League doubles title while playing with her sister, Jessica MacCallum. In 2018, she helped the Breakers reach the CIF Southern Section Division III finals.
In high school, MacCallum, business administration major, served as a co-director of fundraising and events for Second Serve, a fully youth-run non-profit organization that strives to enhance the lives of underprivileged children who love tennis.
MacCallum also made official visits to the U.S. Naval Academy and Colgate, but chose Cal Poly because "of the beautiful location, cutting edge programs and amazing people."
The Mustangs open the fall portion of their 2022-23 season Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Cal Winter Invite.
