Vanessa Wang Enters Final Round of UNM Invitational in Top 40

FIRST-DAY RESULTS
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Cal Poly's Vanessa Wang heads into the final round of the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational in the top 40 following 36 holes of play Monday.
Wang carded back-to-back 74s on the 6,354-yard, par-72 UNM Championship Course on the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. and is tied for 34th place with 10 other golfers.
Jensen Jalufka is tied for 45th with 11 other golfers after posting a 72 in the morning and 77 in the afternoon while Nicole Neale is tied for 63rd place following rounds of 78 and 74.
Cal Poly is 13th among 15 teams competing in the two-day 54-hole event with four-person totals of 300 in the first round and 303 in the second round. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday.
Ohio State is 10 under par after 36 holes, six strokes ahead of second-place Kent State. Iowa State is the only other team in the field under par, one shot behind Kent State.
Individual leader is Mayka Hoogeboom of Kent State with a 70 and 65 for a nine-under-par 135 total and a three-shot advantage over Chiara Horder of Texas Tech (66-72) and Ellie Szeryk of SMU (68-70).
Cal Poly is fourth in the field in par-5 scoring with a four-under-par total. Wang is 11th on par-5 holes at two under par.
