SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's soccer team unveiled its 2022 18-game regular season schedule Wednesday, which features three games against opponents that qualified for the 2021 NCAA Tournament and 11 road matches.
The Mustangs return 22 letterwinners, four United Soccer Coaches All-West Region honorees and nine players that appeared in at least 15 games for the 2021 squad that secured a share of the program's first Big West regular season title in eight years.
All conference and regular season home matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Exhibition matches
Fans will get to see the Mustangs on the new FieldTurf at Alex G. Spanos Stadium for the first time during the program's annual Green versus White intrasquad match on Saturday, Aug. 6.
Cal Poly hosts an exhibition match against Westmont College, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championship in 2021, on Wednesday, Aug. 10, and travels to San Jose State in the Mountain West on Saturday, Aug. 13 to wrap up exhibition play.
Non-conference slate
The Mustangs open the regular season at Saint Mary's (10-4-4 in 2021) on Thursday, Aug. 18. The Gaels defeated Cal Poly 2-1 at Spanos last season and the Mustangs last win over them came back in 2016.
The Mustangs will then face a pair of teams for the first time in program history. On Sunday, Aug. 21, Cal Poly will welcome Iowa (12-6-2 in 2021) to San Luis Obispo for its home opener. This will be Cal Poly's first matchup against a Big Ten opponent since traveling to Indiana in 2017. The Mustangs hit the road on Thursday, Aug. 25 to face another Big Ten foe in Minnesota (8-6-3 in 2021).
The match with the Gophers kicks off a five-game non-conference road trip for the Mustangs. Cal Poly heads to Sacramento State (5-12-2 in 2021) on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2019 NCAA Champion Stanford (13-6-1 in 2021) on Sunday, Sept. 4, Gonzaga (15-5 in 2021) on Thursday, Sept. 8, and Washington State (14-3-4 in 2021) on Sunday, Sept. 11 for its final non-conference game away from the friendly confines of Spanos. The Cougars made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and advanced to the NCAA semifinals in 2019.
After opening Big West Conference play on Sept. 15, the Mustangs will put a bow on their non-conference slate when they host San Diego (6-11-1 in 2021) on Thursday, Sept. 22. This will be Cal Poly's third match against a West Coast Conference opponent in 2022 and will mark the first time since 2010 against CSU Bakersfield (who was a member of the WAC at the time) that the Mustangs will play a non-conference game after starting Big West play.
Big West schedule
A battle with Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara at Spanos on Thursday, Sept. 15 will launch the Mustangs into Big West Conference play and allow the team to return home for the first time in over four weeks. Last year, Cal Poly notched its first victory at the Gauchos since 2013 and Nikki Trucco scored her 10th and final goal of the season, the 12th highest single season goal total in program history.
Cal Poly will host its Senior Day on Sunday, Sept. 25 when they welcome Hawai'i to SLO. The match will cap off a three-game homestand.
The Mustangs hit the road to face CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Sept. 29 and CSUN on Sunday, Oct. 2 before returning home on Thursday, Oct. 6 to take on UC Davis, who handed the Mustangs one of their two losses in conference play last fall.
Road trips to UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton are slated for Thursday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 16 respectively. Cal Poly hosts Long Beach State on Thursday, Oct. 20.
A rematch of the 2021 Big West Conference Tournament title game will take place on Sunday, Oct. 23 when UC Irvine comes to town. The top-seeded Anteaters beat the Mustangs 1-0 in last year's title match, preventing Cal Poly from capturing its first tournament championship since 2004. UC Irvine continued on and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 upset victory over No. 3 UCLA.

A peak at the postseason
This fall, the women's Big West Conference Tournament is expanding from four teams to six. The top two schools in the 11-team Big West regular season standings will receive byes from the Sunday, Oct. 30 opening round of the conference tourney which will feature the third seed hosting the sixth seed, and the fourth seed hosting the fifth seed. The winners of those matches advance to the semifinals to face the top two seeds on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the home field of the top seed. The Big West title game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the No. 1 seed.
The 2022 Women's College Cup is set for Dec. 2-4 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
