SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Camryn Penn, a three-time All-Big West honoree and a two-time Big West Champion, will be remaining around the Cal Poly women’s soccer program during the 2026 season to aid the coaching staff as a student assistant, head coach Bernardo Silva recently announced.
I’m beyond thrilled to announce the addition of Camryn Penn to our staff. Camryn is an ambassador of Cal Poly 2.0 and the perfect representative of our mission to chase excellence daily. Her career at Cal Poly speaks for itself in terms of numbers and stats, but she is so much more than that. Her roles and responsibilities within the program will be all encompassing from coaching, leadership development, and building our alumni sisterhood network. I’m grateful to keep her around as her winning attitude and mindset towards life rubs on all of us daily and she will be another important piece of the puzzle as we continue to elevate Cal Poly 2.0 regionally and nationally.Bernardo Silva, Cal Poly Women's Soccer Head Coach
Penn, who exhausted her eligibility following the conclusion of the 2025 season, was a mainstay on the backline and in Cal Poly’s starting lineup the last four seasons, playing a pivotal role in the team’s recent historic success. This past season as a team captain, the four-year starter helped the Mustangs capture their first Big West Tournament Championship in 21 years and advance to the NCAA Tournament, starting in all 22 matches and playing the third most minutes on the team (1,747).
The Foster City, Calif. native earned All-Big West Honorable Mention recognition for the second time this past year, starting in 31 consecutive matches to end her sensational career. A three-time Big West All-Academic honoree, Penn racked up 6,198 minutes on the pitch during her time as a Mustang while starring at outside back, burying her first career goal as a junior in 2024 and dishing out four career assists. Her 77 career starts are tied for the third most in program history and her 80 career appearances are tied for the fourth most in program history.
Penn, who played every minute in 30 career matches, helped the Mustangs record 28 shutouts during her career, including 10 in both 2022 and 2025 — tied for the fourth most shutouts in a season in program history. As a true freshman in 2022, Penn was a part of Cal Poly’s first outright Big West regular season championship in nine years, playing in all 19 matches and earning a start in 17 of them en route to securing an All-Big West Freshman Team selection. The Mustangs compiled a 34-29-18 overall record and a 21-12-7 mark in Big West matches during Penn’s time on the team.
This May, Penn received her first international call-up, joining the Philippines Women’s National Team in lead up to a pair of World Cup build-up matches in June.
While assisting the program this fall, Penn will complete her undergraduate degree and begin her pursuit for a master’s in engineering management.
