
11 Cal Poly Tennis Players Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly tennis squads continue to get it done in the classroom as a total of 11 Cal Poly men's and women's tennis players, six men and five women, were named 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes while both teams were named ITA All-Academic Teams.
For programs to receive the ITA All-Academic Team Award, a team must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the academic year. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, a student-athlete had to have a gpa of 3.5 or higher during the academic year.
The six men's players who earned ITA Scholar-Athletes status are Noah Berry, Hendrik Inno, Joe Leather, Colter Smith, Gary Vardanyan, and Fernando Fonseca.
It is the third time that Fonseca has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and the second for Vardanyan.
On the women's side, Emily Ackerman, Laura Bente, Kim Bhunu, Delanie Dunkle, and Melissa LaMette all were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
For Bhunu, it is the third time she has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete while it is the second time for Ackerman, Dunkle, and LaMette.
For the seventh straight year, the Mustang women's team was named an ITA All-Academic Team while for the men's team it is the fourth consecutive year.
