
78 Cal Poly Student-Athletes Earn All-Big West Academic Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A total of 78 Cal Poly student-athletes across nine programs earned Big West Spring All-Academic honors, the conference announced Friday.
To be eligible for Big West All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in a minimum 50 percent of the program's games or meets.
The complete listing of Cal Poly's 78 selections is below.
The Mustang men's track and field program led the way with 24 selections, the most among any Big West program. Seniors John Bennett, Anthony Benitez, Devon Cetti, Tyler Esteves, Elias Opsahl, and John Walther all were honored for the third straight year.
Meanwhile, Cal Poly's women's track and field team saw 17 selections this year. Two athletes – Sierra Brill and Kristen Wallace earned the honor for the third consecutive year.
The Mustang baseball program had nine players who earned the honor with senior pitcher Jason Franks and junior infielder Nick Marinconz repeating their selections from last year.
The Cal Poly beach volleyball program, which won its third straight Big West Championship and made its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament this past season, had four honorees. Jayelin Lombard and Vanessa Roscoe each were honored for the third time while Josie Ulrich earned her second straight selection.
Cal Poly women's golf, which won its second straight Big West Championship this season, also had four players earn the honor. Senior Elizabeth Scholtes was honored for the third straight year while senior Vanessa Wang made her second straight appearance on the list. The Mustang men's golf team also saw four players selected as senior Will Draper was honored for the third consecutive year.
The Mustang softball team had eight players selected, marking the 10th time under 18th year head coach Jenny Condon the team has had at least five players earn the honor.
The Cal Poly men's tennis team, which won its second consecutive Big West regular season title in 2022, had four players selected, highlighted by senior Gary Vardanyan making it for the third straight year.
Mustang women's tennis also saw four players earn the honor with Kim Bhunu, who was named First Team All-Big West in 2022, qualifying for the third straight year.
