SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After finishing the 2022 season No. 63 in the country, the Cal Poly men's tennis team has been selected to compete in the prestigious 2023 ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The No. 63 Mustangs drew the Ann Arbor, Mich. regional in which No. 8 Michigan is the host. Joining Cal Poly and Michigan are No. 31 Northwestern and No. 46 Arkansas.
The field, comprised of 15 host sites, was decided via the ITA Men's Kickoff Weekend Draft, with teams from around the country receiving the opportunity to choose which host site they would prefer to play at. The 15 host sites were predetermined based on 2022 year-end rankings. Selection order was based on year-end finish, starting with the No. 16 ranked team and running until all of the spots were filled.
The 15th annual running of the event will take place Friday and Saturday, January 27-28, 2023. The winner of the Michigan Regional will then advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships in Champaign, Illinois.
This past season, the Mustangs finished 15-6 overall and 8-1 in Big West. They were co-champions of the regular season with UCSB, marking the second straight year winning the regular season crown.
Michigan was 25-4 overall in 2022 and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, Northwestern was 20-11 and reached the NCAA Tournament, and Arkansas was 15-14 in 2022.
