Fredeen Second in Heptathlon After Day 1 of BWC Multi-Event Championships

DAVIS, Calif. — Cal Poly's Adelae Fredeen is sitting in second in the heptathlon after Day 1 of the Big West Conference Multi-Event Championships at UC Davis.
Fredeen is just 53 points behind the current leader, UC Santa Barbara's Jessica Swalve (3,016 points). On Friday, Fredeen grabbed second in the 200-meter (26.05 seconds), third in the 100 hurdles (14.79) and third in the shot put with a season best 39 feet, 1.25 inches to put herself in position to contend for a BWC title in the heptathlon Saturday.
Freshman Maya Holman is in fifth place (2,767) after the first four heptathlon events. She tied for first in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 5-2.25 and took fourth in the 100 hurdles. She also secured personal bests in the 200 and shot put.
In the decathlon, Dylan Bouzigues, who finished second at last year's conference championships, is currently slotted in seventh with 3,311 points. He is followed closely behind by teammate Nick Gammal in ninth.
Bouzigues was third in the high jump with a season-best of 6-2.75 and fourth in the shot put. He trails the leader by 406 points.
Gammal recorded personal bests in three of the five events and earned third in the shot put (40-5).
Shimona Draper is also eighth (2,661) out of 14 competitors in the heptathlon. Draper placed second in the 100 hurdles, tying her personal best (14.37). She nabbed fifth in the 200 and tossed a personal best in the shot put.

Conference champions will be crowned in the decathlon and heptathlon Saturday at Woody Wilson Track, with competition starting at noon. You can follow the live results HERE.
