SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Joe Yorke went 5-for-5 with one RBI and Ryan Stafford produced his second four-hit game of the season, driving in three, as Cal Poly opened its Big West Conference baseball series against Central California rival CSU Bakersfield with a 14-1 victory Friday night inside Baggett Stadium.
Yorke singled three times and doubled twice, lifting his average 21 points to .315, extending his hitting streak to 11 games and notching Cal Poly's first five-hit game since Cole Cabrera went 5-for-6 against Cal State Fullerton a year ago. Yorke's five-hit game was the 18th of five or more hits in Cal Poly's 28-year Division I history.
Yorke's double in the first inning drove in the game's first run. Hitting .246 after the CSUN series in mid-March, the Mustang first baseman has gone 37-for-104 (.356) over his last 26 games with four doubles and 18 RBIs to add 69 points to his batting average.
Stafford, who also had a four-hit game at UNLV in early March, singled four times Friday, driving in two runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh. Hitting .381 after his four-hit game at UNLV on March 6, Stafford slipped to .279 as he went 30-for-123 (.244), which included a 0-for-20 slump, over his next 29 games.
Mustang head coach Larry Lee dropped Stafford, who had been hitting leadoff all season, down to the No. 5 spot Friday night and the freshman catcher responded with the team's fourth four-hit game of the year.
With the win, Cal Poly snapped a six-game losing streak, improving to 25-20 for the season and 12-7 in Big West games, tied for second place with Hawai'i, which is playing out of conference this weekend. CSU Bakersfield fell to 16-25 and 9-10. The Roadrunners were 7-2 three weeks into the conference season but have lost eight of their last 10 Big West contests.
Cal Poly scored four times in both the first and sixth innings and added three more in the seventh, producing a season-high 21 hits and playing errorless defense for the 17th time this year.
Collin Villegas' two-run home run, his fourth of the year, highlighted Cal Poly's first-inning rally and his sacrifice fly in the fourth gave the Mustangs a 5-1 lead.

CSU Bakersfield scored its lone run in the third on Cody Hendrik's RBI single to left field.
Benefitting from all the offense was sophomore right-hander Drew Thorpe (7-1), who produced his 11th consecutive quality start by allowing one run and four hits over six innings with two walks and nine strikeouts. He hit a batter for the first time this season, plunking Jashia Morrissey in the sixth inning.
Derek True, Zach Button and Chris Baytosh each pitched one scoreless inning in relief for the Mustangs.
The loss was charged to Runner starter Adrian Santa Cruz (1-1) as he surrendered five runs and 10 hits over four innings.
In addition to Yorke and Stafford, Cal Poly's 21-hit offensive barrage also included two hits each by Villegas, Lopez, Tate Samuelson, Brett Borgogno and Brooks Lee.
Shortstop Aaron Casillas doubled once and singled twice for CSU Bakersfield and Hendriks added two singles.
Last time Cal Poly had two players with at least four hits in one game was in 2014. In a 16-10 win at CSUN on May 16, 2014, both Nick Torres and Brian Mundell had two doubles and a pair of singles.
Second game of the series will be played Saturday at 4 p.m. with Cal Poly junior southpaw Travis Weston (3-3, 5.06 ERA) to face CSU Bakersfield sophomore right-hander Jaykob Acosta (3-3, 3.11 ERA) on Bark at the Park Day in Baggett Stadium.
Sunday's series finale starts at 1 o'clock.
