
Six Cal Poly Women’s Tennis Players Earn All-Conference Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – On the heels of having its best season in over a decade, six Cal Poly women's tennis players garnered Big West All-Conference honors, the Big West announced Wednesday.
Redshirt junior Kim Bhunu as well as the doubles tandem of Bhunu and senior Emily Ackerman earned First Team All-Conference honors.
The doubles pair of redshirt sophomores Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LaMette were named Second Team All-Conference. LaMette as well as graduate student Laura Bente were named Honorable Mention All-Conference in singles while the doubles team of Bente and freshman Peyton Dunkle also earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
In singles, Bhunu finished the year with a record of 12-10 at the No. 1 spot, including a 6-1 conference play record. In doubles, Bhunu and Ackerman were a team-best 15-8 while playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. It is the second straight year that Bhunu has earned All-Conference honors in both singles and doubles.
For Ackerman, she finishes her Cal Poly career as a three-time All-Conference honoree in doubles.
LaMette and Delanie Dunkle earned Second Team doubles honors for the second consecutive year after finishing with a record of 12-5 together, including a 4-2 record in Big West play.
LaMette also earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in singles after she went 14-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. It is her second straight year earning singles All-Conference honors after being named Second Team a year ago.
Bente, a graduate transfer from the University of Memphis, was named Honorable Mention All-Conference in singles after going 7-7 overall and 4-1 in Big West play at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
Bente and Peyton Dunkle earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in doubles after a strong season playing together for the first time. Playing at the No. 3 spot, they went 10-1, including a perfect 6-0 record against Big West teams.
Cal Poly finished the season with a 17-7 record, the program's most wins in a single season since 2003 and second most in its Division I history. They reached the Big West Tournament championship match for the second straight year. They also finished second place in the Big West regular season, their highest finish since 2011.
