Cal Poly Slips from Fourth to Sixth in 2022 Big West Championship

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Nicholas Mok fired another round of 71 and Baron Szeto also is in the top 10 heading into the final round of the 2022 Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship.
Despite adding just three strokes to its total from the first round, Cal Poly slipped from fourth to sixth in the team standings, 23 strokes off the pace set by UC Davis.
The Aggies posted their second four-person 283 total for a 10-under-par 566 aggregate and a commanding 130stroke advantage over defending Big West champion Long Beach State with 18 more holes to be played Tuesday morning on the 7,056-yard, par-72 La Quinta Country Club course.
CSUN is third with a 582 total while UC Irvine is fourth at 586.
Cal Poly added a 296 to its first-round 293 total and is sixth with a 13-over-par 589 aggregate.
Mok carded three birdies and a pair of bogeys for his 71 Monday and is tied for fifth place with two other golfers. Szeto added a 73 to his 71 from Sunday and is tied for ninth place at even-par 144.
Setting the pace is Thomas Hutchison of UC Davis, who has posted rounds of 67 and 68 for a nine-under-par 135 total and a three-stroke lead over Ian Gilligan of Long Beach State (70-68--138). Jacob Westberg (71-69) of UC Davis is third at 140.
Mustangs Austin Liu (77-75) and Will Draper (74-78) share 31st place with four other golfers at 152. Adil Bir Singh recored a 77.
Mok is seventh in par-4 scoring at one over par while Szeto leads the field of 45 golfers in par-5 scoring at eight under par. Mok is third in par-5 scoring at five under par.
Szeto is tied for second place with his 10 birdies over 36 holes and Mok is fourth with eight.
Cal Poly tees off with UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton from the first tee Tuesday at 8 a.m.
