Cal Poly Women’s Tennis No. 72 in Latest ITA Rankings

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Having won seven straight matches, the Cal Poly women's tennis team has moved into the national rankings for the first time this season. The Mustangs (12-4, 5-0 BWC) are ranked No. 72 in this week's ITA team rankings. Last week Cal Poly beat Long Beach State and No. 75 Hawaii to improve to 8-0 at home this year. This week, Cal Poly is set to host UC Riverside Friday, April 8 at 11 a.m. for 'Pink Day'. The Mustangs will wear pink in honor of former player Susanne Boyden's mother, Pam Boyden, who is now in remission after her battle against breast cancer. Fans in attendance are also encouraged to wear pink. At the No. 1 singles spot redshirt junior Kim Bhunu is 8-4. The Dunkle sisters, freshman Peyton (10-2) and redshirt sophomore Delanie (8-6), are on six-match winning streaks. Peyton plays primarily at the No. 6 spot and Delanie is at the No. 5 spot. At the No. 3 singles spot, redshirt sophomore Melissa LaMette, is 10-5 and on a four-match winning streak. Cal Poly has not lost the doubles point of a match in over a month. No. 1 doubles duo redshirt junior Emily Ackerman and Bhunu are 11-4 and on a seven-match winning streak. LaMette and Delanie are currently 8-3 from the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 spot, graduate student Laura Bente and Peyton are 6-0. The Mustangs have won their last eleven matches against UC Riverside, who are 3-11 this season. Following Friday's home match, the Mustangs will travel down to Los Angeles on Sunday, April 10 to face No. 18 USC at 3 p.m.
