Mustangs Take Down No. 17 Arizona Friday in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Battling through cold weather and rain at times, the Cal Poly beach volleyball team picked up a 3-2 win over No. 17 Arizona Friday in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah.Mariah Whalen and Piper Naess got Cal Poly on the board with a three-set 21-12, 23-25, 15-12 win.
The No. 1 Mustang duo of freshman Ella Connor and redshirt senior Tia Miric then gave Cal Poly the lead after a 21-11, 21-17 win to improve their record this season to 21-11.
The dual victory was clinched by the No. 5 pair of redshirt juniors Delaney Peranich and Kalee Graff after battling to come from behind and collect a three-set win, 12-21, 21-16, 15-13.
With the Boise State match being moved to Saturday, Cal Poly will play three matches instead of two. Saturday, the Mustangs will take on the Broncos at 8 a.m. PT followed by Salt Lake Community College for an exhibition match at 10 a.m. PT before finishing up against the University of Utah at 2 p.m. PT to finish out the regular season.
Lightning and heavy rain forced the No. 13 Mustangs' (18-15) second match of the day Friday against Boise State to be moved to Saturday at 8 a.m. PT.
Cal Poly picked up its third straight win over the No. 17 Wildcats, including a 2-0 record against them this season.
