SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After going 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles last week, redshirt sophomore Delanie Dunkle has been named the Big West Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
This is the third time in her career she has won the award. It is also the second straight week a Mustang has earned the honor after her doubles partner, Melissa LaMette, won it last week.
Against UC Riverside last week, Dunkle did not drop a game in singles as she won her match at the No. 5 spot over Serina Saltzen, 6-0, 6-0 to help the Mustangs beat UC Riverside 7-0 and remain unbeaten in Big West Play.
On Sunday against No. 18 USC, Dunkle and LaMette won their doubles match at the No. 2 spot over Snow Han and Danielle Willson, 7-6(3) to help the Mustangs take the doubles point.
She then had Cal Poly's lone singles win against the Trojans, defeating Isabelle Lee at the No. 5 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Dunkle is 10-6 in singles with eight straight victories, and 9-3 in doubles with LaMette as winners of three in a row.
Cal Poly, who Wednesday jumped up in the ITA national rankings to No. 70, are 13-5 overall and 6-0 in Big West play. They have a pair of Big West road matches this week as they will face UC Irvine Friday before taking on No. 64 Cal State Fullerton Saturday.
