SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — As both programs continue to stay unbeaten in Big West play, both the Cal Poly men's and women's tennis teams moved up in the latest ITA rankings released Wednesday.
The Mustang men's team moved up four spots from last week's rankings from No. 59 to No. 55, the highest they have been ranked this season. They are right behind conference foe UCSB, who sits at No. 54.
Meanwhile, the women's team moved up two spots from No. 72 to No. 70. The Mustangs are one of three Big West teams in the rankings along with UCSB (No. 25) and Cal State Fullerton (No. 64).
Last week, the men's team had a 3-0 week against Big West opponents. The Mustangs beat UC Riverside, UC Davis, and UC San Diego to improve their overall record to 14-4 and move to 5-0 in the Big West. They are currently in first place in the Big West with one match against UCSB on April 23 remaining, seeking to win their second straight Big West regular season championship.
The women's team also continued its strong play last week, defeating UC Riverside 7-0 to stay in first place in the Big West standings. They also had a good showing on the road against No. 18 USC. However, they fell to the Trojans 4-2. They are now 13-5 overall and 6-0 in the Big West.
Both teams have three matches remaining in the regular season before the Big West Tournament gets underway in San Diego.
