18 Cal Poly Track & Field Athletes Place First in Cal Poly Invitational

In other men's events, Devon Cetti won the hammer throw (193-2.75) and was second in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 52-8.75 while Kevin Schmitt won the high jump with a personal-best 6-6.75 and was second in the javelin with another personal best of 177-2.25.
Zachary Volpe climbed 16-2.75 to win the pole vault and post a personal-best mark while Cal Poly won both relay events -- a season-best time of 41.33 in the 4-by-100 and 3:15.35 in the 4-by-400.
Also, Tyler Esteves won the 100 (personal-best 10.90) and was second in the 200 (22.30) while Chris Davis won the 400 (49.06) and Joey Souto earned a first in the 400 hurdles (personal-best 53.68).
Quinton Alexander's second-place time of 1:53.33 in the 800 was a personal best as well.
On the women's side, Shelby Daniele won the 100 in 12.27 and her second-place time of 25.02 in the 200 is a personal best.
Shimona Draper finished second in both the 100 hurdles (14.60) and 400 hurdles (1:03.56), both times personal bests.
Cassidy Hubert lowered her career best in winning the 800 to 2:11.38 while Kaia Hoak's first-place time of 11:13.65 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase also is a personal best.
Karina Moreland won the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 39-9.5 while Annie Hatzenbeler placed first in the pole vault at 12-11.5, another career best.
Other Mustang winners were Natalie Rogers in the shot put (39-1.5) and Isabella Rigby in the discus (160-7.75). Maya Holman's second-place mark of 18-0 in the long jump is a personal best.
Student-athletes from Fresno State, CSU Bakersfield, Saint Mary's, Biola, Fresno Pacific, Southern Idaho, Sonoma State, Santa Clara, Cuesta College and Monterey Peninsula College joined Cal Poly in the non-scoring meet along with several unattached competitors and those from various track clubs.
Cal Poly will compete in the West Coast Relays on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of Buchanan High School in Clovis. First edition of the meet was in 1927, then was discontinued during the 80's but later revived as the Bob Mathias Fresno Relays. It's last edition of the meet was in 2005 before another revival in 2021.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Aidan McCarthy set a new meet record and personal best in the 1,500 while Melody Nwagwu earned a first in the long jump and second in the triple jump, highlighting Cal Poly's performances in the Cal Poly Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Steve Miller and John Capriotti Athletics Complex.
McCarthy turned in a time of 3 minutes, 45.93 seconds to better the meet record of 3:46.09 set by Ben Bruce in 2005. Xian Shively was second in the 1,500 with a personal-best 3:46.13.
