Cal Poly Men's Golf Team Opens Spring Season in Orange County

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Idle for over three months, the Cal Poly men's golf team gets back into the swing of things as the spring portion of the 2021-22 season begins Monday and Tuesday.
Coach Phil Rowe's Mustangs wil compete in the third annual Orange County Collegiate Classic at the Coto de Caza Golf Club's South Course.
Following a practice round Sunday, the 10-team tournament begins Monday with 36 holes of play starting with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday's final round also begins at 8:30 a.m.

In addition to Cal Poly and co-hosts UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton, the teams in the field include Central Arkansas, UC Santa Barbara, California Baptist, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, Seattle and CSUN.
The South Course measures 6,950 yards with a par of 72.
Cal Poly competed in four tournaments during the fall, saving the best for last with a seventh-place finish among 15 teams competing in the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational in Ewa Beach on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
Will Draper led the way for the Mustangs with a third-place individual finish, carding rounds of 70, 74 and 67 for a five-under-par 211 total. Joey Zambri was 18th and Baron Szeto also placed in the top 30 with a 29th-place finish.
Draper and Szeto both finished with team-leading 72.8 scoring averages for the fall. They will compete in the Orange County Collegiate Classic with Drew Kim, Austin Liu and Nicholas Mok with Zambri competing as an individual.
Cal Poly will compete in five more spring tournaments hosted by Stanford (two), Oregon, UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis. The Big West Conference Championships will be held May 1-3 at the La Quinta Country Club.
