
Cal Poly Wins Sixth Straight After 4-1 Defeat of South Florida

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Cal Poly men's tennis won its sixth consecutive match after taking down the University of South Florida, 4-1, Friday in its first match of the Arizona State Eight-Team Tournament in Tempe.Colter Smith and freshman Bastiaan Weststrate won their match 6-3 before the Mustangs' No. 1 duo of redshirt sophomore Joe Leather and graduate Hendrik Inno won 7-5 to clinch the point for Cal Poly.
Smith and Weststrate are now 4-1 together this season. Leather and Inno are also 4-1 as a duo so far.
In singles, the Bulls got on the board with a win at the No. 4 spot before sophomore Noah Berry gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead after winning his match at the No. 1 spot in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. Berry is now a perfect 8-0 this season.
Inno later gave the Mustangs a 3-1 lead after he won his match at the No. 6 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 to improve his record this year to 4-2.
The win was then clinched for Cal Poly by Leather after he had a three set comeback win at the No. 2 spot, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. He is now 6-1 this year and has won five straight matches.
The Mustangs will face Memphis Saturday at 10 a.m. MT (9 a.m. PT) for a chance to go the championship final of the tournament Sunday.
