Vick, Nielacna Score Double Figures But Mustangs Fall at UCSB

ISLA VISTA, Calif. — Junior guard Maddie Vick and junior forward Julia Nielacna both scored double figures but Cal Poly, who shot 24-percent from the field, fell on the road to UC Santa Barbara Saturday 73-40.
Vick finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Nielacna also finished with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds. Junior guard Maddie Willett and freshman guard Annika Shah both added seven points.
The Mustangs (3-15, 2-7 BWC) committed 16 turnovers which the Gauchos (13-7, 7-4 BWC) turned into 25 points. Cal Poly shot 14-percent (3-21) from three while UCSB shot 44-percent from the field.
Cal Poly took a 4-3 lead with 6:23 left in the first quarter. However, that would be the Mustangs' only lead of the game as UCSB led for nearly 37 minutes.
After Nielacna hit a three with 7:48 left in the second quarter to cut the Gaucho lead to 18-15, UCSB went on a 16-3 to end the half to lead by 16.
In the second half, the Mustangs were never able to trim the lead any less than 17 as UCSB held Cal Poly to six points in the third quarter.
The Mustangs will return home for a pair of conference games next week starting with UC Davis on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.
