Three-Point Barrage Leads UC Davis to Win Over Cal Poly Thursday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Junior guards Maddie Vick and Maddie Willett both scored in double figures but UC Davis, behind making a season-high 15 threes, topped Cal Poly Thursday at Mott Athletics Center, 85-55.
Vick finished with a team-high 14 points to go along with four rebounds. Willett scored 11 points, including going 3-5 from three. Freshman guard Sydney Bourland added nine points and four assists and freshman forward Faith Bergstrom finished with a career-high eight points.
The Mustangs (3-16, 2-8 BWC) were without two key players for the game. Graduate forward Kirsty Brown got the start but was subbed out right after the jump ball and did not play the rest of the game. They were also missing junior forward Julia Nielacna who was out due to injury.
The Aggies (12-9, 6-5 BWC) were red hot the whole game, shooting 56.7-percent from the field and 48.4-percent from three. They were led by senior forward Cierra Hall's 22 points and seven rebounds.
UC Davis started the first quarter making its first eight shots from the field getting out to a 21-4 lead and led by 20 heading into the second. The Aggies ended the first quarter shooting 68.8-percent from the field.
UC Davis continued its hot shooting in the second quarter, shooting 58.8-percent from the field as they led by as much 31.
The Aggies' strong play continued into the second half as they went up as much 39 in the third while making eight threes in the half.
Cal Poly will look to bounce back Saturday when hosting UC Riverside at 2 p.m. Saturday's game will be Play4Kay Day with $2 from each ticket sold going towards the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
