SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly redshirt freshman tight end Josh Cuevas has been named to the 2022 FCS All-Freshman Team by The Bluebloods.
The website, which covers the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision, honored Cuevas after a stellar campaign in which he made 57 catches for 662 yards and six touchdowns.
The inaugural Bluebloods FCS All-Freshman team includes 28 freshman standouts from across the country and includes a representative from 12 of the 15 FCS conferences. To be eligible for the All-Freshman Team, players must be in their first or second academic year and cannot have participated in four or more games in the previous academic year.
Cuevas, who played in three of Cal Poly's last four games of the 2021 season to preserve his redshirt year, twice scored two touchdowns in a game -- at Northern Arizona and at home versus Montana State. He caught seven or more passes in a game four times, including a season-high 10 receptions in the season finale against Portland State.
Longest reception of the year for the Campbell Hall (Los Angeles) High School graduate was 42 yards against San Diego. Jaden Jones threw the pass to Cuevas for a touchdown in the second quarter of a 28-27 Mustang win.
Six other players from Big Sky Conference schools made the list.
They are Idaho quarterback Gevani McCoy, Sacramento State offensive lineman Nathan Mejia, Montana State offensive lineman Omar Aigbedion and defensive lineman Kenneth Eiden IV, UC Davis defensive back Rex Connors and Montana punter Patrick Rohrbach.
