11/18/2022 10:06:00 PM | Men's Basketball
STANFORD – Senior guard Trevon Taylor scored a team leading 12 points and grabbed a team best seven rebounds, but the Cal Poly men's basketball program trailed Stanford from the onset Friday evening and – during its first visit to Maples Pavilion in five years – dropped an 80-43 decision to the Cardinal.
Sophomore guard Aidan Prukop finished with a career high eight points for Cal Poly (1-2), which – returning to action from an eight-day break – was kept to 27.9 (12-for-43) percent field goal mark. Stanford (2-2), conversely, shot 49.2 (29-for-59) percent from the floor and sank 14 three-pointers.
Cal Poly returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 20, hosting first-time opponent Mount St. Mary's inside Mott Athletics Center. Tip time is 7 p.m.
Kept to a 0-for-5 shooting start and forced into seven early turnovers, Cal Poly trailed Stanford after six minutes, 17-0. Taylor snapped Cal Poly's drought with the first of his two three-pointers, but Stanford connected on its next six field goal attempts to increase the lead.
The Cardinal led by as much as 30 points during the first half before taking a 47-19 advantage into the break.
Into the second half, Cal Poly twice lowered Stanford's lead to 25 points – the second instance occurring after Prukop knocked down a three-pointer with 16-and-a-half minutes to play to cut the gap to 52-27.
