Parrish Places in Top 10, Cal Poly 12th at Marquette Intercollegiate

RIVER HILLS, Wisc. -- Sophomore Jackson Parrish earned his first top-10 finish as a Mustang and the Cal Poly men's golf team placed 12th in the Marquette Intercollegiate, which wrapped up a two-day 54-hole run Monday at the Milwaukee Country Club.
Parrish, who completed a round of 66 in the dark Sunday, matched his opening round with another 74 Monday and settled for a 10th-place tie with five other golfers, all with four-over-par 214 totals.
The transfer from Colorado School of Mines carded five birdies and one bogey for his 66 in the second round on the 7,101-yard par-70 course, moving into third place at the time. Parrish, who missed the school record of 64 which has been accomplished three times, completed his second round just as the tournament was being suspended due to darkness.
More than half the field of 87 golfers in the 15-team event completed their second round Monday morning before heading into the final round. Parrish was tied for fourth place at even par when the second round was completed.
Luke Gutschewski notched a final-round 66 to pull away from the field and claimed top individual honors with a six-under-par 204 total, four shots ahead of J.M. Butler of Auburn and David Nyfjall of Northwestern.
Auburn captured the team title with a five-over-par 54-hole 845 aggregate, six shots ahead of Northwestern and host Marquette. Cal Poly, which earned four-person 300 and 285 rounds Sunday, posted a 294 total Monday for a 39-over-par 879 aggregate.
In addition to Parrish, Mustang Drew Kim also carded a 74 Monday for a 220 total and 46th place.
Baron Szeto and Joey Zambri each recorded 73s -- Szeto finishing with a 221 total and 52nd place and Zambri placing 74th with a 226 total. Ben Quick added a 75 for a 232 total and 82nd place.
Competing as an individual, Luke Adam finished in 42nd place with a 219 total after a round of 72 that included one birdie, 14 pars and three bogeys.
Parrish was ninth in par-4 scoring at one over par and was fifth with 10 birdies over 54 holes.
Cal Poly wraps up the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 by hosting The Cal Poly Invitational at the Preserve Golf Club in Carmel Valley.
