
The Cal Poly women's golf team earned a second-place finish for the second time this fall, posting a final-round 296 aggregate at the Charlotte Invitational on Tuesday.

CONCORD, N.C. -- A final-round 72 by Vanessa Wang helped Cal Poly to a second-place tie with James Madison in the Charlotte Invitational women's golf tournament, which completed a two-day run Tuesday at the Cabarrus Country Club.
Coach Courtney Roberts' Mustangs began the final 18 holes of play alone in second place, four shots off the lead held by Xavier. Cal Poly posted a four-person 296 total Tuesday while Xavier finished with a 294 for a six-stroke victory. James Madison pulled even with the Mustangs with a 293 aggregate.
Wang's par round on the 6,381-yard course included two birdies, 14 pars and a pair of bogeys. She finished with a 13-over-par 229 total, tied for 17th place with four other golfers.
Two other Mustangs finished in the top 10.
Jensen Jalufka carded a final-round 74 for a 221 total and fourth place, the highest finish of her collegiate career, while Kamille Dimayuga added a 76 for a 223 total and a sixth-place tie, also a career best, with four other golfers.
Cal Poly's other scores were a 79 by Nicole Neale for a 230 total and 22nd place, and Carissa Wu with a 74 for a 231 total and 26th place.
Emma McMyler of Xavier and Kendall Turner of James Madison were declared co-medalists, each finishing with two-over-par 218 totals. They entered the final round tied for second place and both carded 72s Tuesday. Kaiyuree Moodley of Charlotte was third at 220.
Second-round leader Kara Carter of Xavier posted a final-round 80 and finished 13th.
Dimayuga topped the field of 73 golfers with 40 pars and Wang was fifth with 36. Dimayuga also was second in par-4 scoring at one over par. Jalufka finished tied for fifth in total birdies with eight and was sixth in par-5 scoring at one under par.
The Charlotte Invitational closed out the fall schedule for Cal Poly. The Mustangs return to competition Feb. 12-14 at the Tulane Invitational in New Orleans.
