Later after the Mustangs took a 19-17 lead, the Anteaters went on a 7-1 run to take a 24-20 lead. Cal Poly scored the next point to get it within three before a kill by UC Irvine's Kiani Stanton won the set for the Anteaters 25-21.
Tied 4-4 in the second set, the Mustangs scored four straight points to get out to an 8-4 lead. UC Irvine followed with a 6-1 run to overtake the lead 10-9. From there, a 7-1 run by Cal Poly gave the Mustangs a 16-11 lead. The Anteaters were able to make their way back and eventually tie the score at 21 apiece before Cal Poly scored the next four points to take the second set 25-21.
The Mustangs came out strong to begin the third set, getting out to a 6-3 lead before UC Irvine scored four straight points to regain the lead at 7-6. With the Anteaters ahead 14-13, three points in a row by UC Irvine gave them a four point advantage. Later with UC Irvine still leading by four at 23-19, a 4-1 Mustangs run got them back within one. However, UC Irvine spoiled the comeback as it was once again a kill by Stanton that won the set for the Anteaters 25-23.
In the fourth set, Cal Poly once again started strong by scoring the first four points of the set and getting out to a 10-3 lead.
