Cal Poly Enjoys 44 Big West Fall All-Academic Team Selections

SAN LUIS OBISPO – A total of 44 Cal Poly student-athletes across five programs – an increase of 11 selections from two years ago – earned Big West Conference Fall All-Academic Team honors on Monday afternoon.
In order to qualify for selection, student-athletes (excluding true freshmen and first-year transfers) had to maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA through the most recent academic term while also competing in at least 50 percent of their program's competitions.
Cal Poly's 44-player total trailed only UC San Diego (51) and UC Riverside (47) among the Big West's 11 members. With the 2020 fall sports season cancelled, Monday's announcement marked the first Big West Fall All-Academic Team in two years.

The Mustang women's soccer team – which captured the program's first Big West regular season title in seven years last fall – supplied nearly one-third of Cal Poly's fall total with 14 selections.
Cal Poly's volleyball program, which finished third in the Big West standings last fall, enjoyed nine more selections – 60 percent of its active roster in 2021.
The Mustang men's soccer program produced a program record nine selections, nearly doubling the previous mark of five from 2011. Cal Poly finished third in the last fall's Big West standings while hosting a postseason conference tournament match for the second successive year.
Cal Poly's men's cross country program, which finished second in last fall's Big West Championships, recorded six honorees – 18 percent of the Big West's 34 selections for the sport.
The Mustang women's cross country team, meanwhile, enjoyed five further selections.
