Cal Poly Hosts Gonzaga Friday, San Jose State Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Winners of three of its last four matches, the Cal Poly women's soccer program closes the non-conference portion of its home schedule when hosting Gonzaga on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. and San Jose State on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 12 noon. Resuming action following a 2-1 victory at Colorado College (Sept. 5), Cal Poly faces a Gonzaga side that has scored 22 goals in its opening six matches to rank third among 309 NCAA Division I programs in scoring. The Bulldogs are also fourth nationally with 131 shot attempts, eighth with 3.7 goals per game, 10th with 21.8 shots per game and 24th with a 0.33 goals against average. Gonzaga (5-1-0) takes a three-match winning streak into Friday's matchup, having defeated Portland State (7-0) on Aug. 29, Hawai'i (5-0) on Sept. 2 and Montana (3-0) on Sept. 5. San Jose State (2-3-0), with five goals in five games, has been shut out three times this year – including a 2-0 loss in the program's last outing at Utah Valley (Sept. 6). The Spartans host Loyola Marymount on Friday before facing Cal Poly.

CAL POLY VERSUS GONZAGA: The Mustangs face Gonzaga for just the third time in program history with the Bulldogs prevailing in Spokane during the last matchup on Sept. 7, 2018, 2-1. Cal Poly captured the other previous matchup by the same scoreline at home on Oct. 6, 1995.
CAL POLY VERSUS SAN JOSE STATE: Meeting San Jose State for the fourth time in the last five years, Cal Poly is unbeaten versus the Spartans in 10 of the last 11 matchups. The two programs finished in a scoreless draw to complete the last meeting on Aug. 22, 2019 and Cal Poly leads the all-time series, 10-3-2.
TRUCCO SETS SCORING PACE ONCE AGAIN: The Big West Conference's leading scorer with four goals, sophomore forward Nikki Trucco has already equaled her previous high from 2019 through just six matches. After finding the back of the net against Sacramento State (Aug. 29), Air Force (Sept. 2) and Colorado College (Sept. 5), Trucco's first goal of the season came versus Saint Mary's Aug. 22). A starter in all six games, Trucco also leads the program and ranks seventh in the Big West with 15 shot attempts.
SUPER SUB: Cal Poly's second leading scorer with two goals, both of freshman Kate Reedy's strikes have come in reserve appearances with the midfielder netting against Sacramento State (Aug. 29) and the game-winner at Colorado College (Sept. 5). Averaging just 33.2 minutes per appearance, Reedy has scored once every 99.5 minutes – the same strike rate as Cal Poly's leading goalscorer, Nikki Trucco.
