Cal Poly Scores Early and Late to Secure 2-1 Sunday Win at Colorado College
9/5/2021 2:23:00 PM | Women's Soccer
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman midfielder Kate Reedy's 74th-minute goal – her second in the Cal Poly women's soccer program's last three games – marked Sunday's game-winner as the Mustangs closed a two-game road trip with a 2-1 victory versus Colorado College at Stewart Field.
Junior goalkeeper Ava Dorvillier recorded a season high seven saves for Cal Poly (3-3-0), which took a 1-0 lead in the third minute as sophomore forward Nikki Trucco notched her team leading fourth goal. Junior forward Brooke Rubenstein earned the assist on the goal by Trucco, who also scored in the sixth minute of Cal Poly's Sept. 2 matchup at Air Force.
With Cal Poly facing Colorado College (0-4-0) for just the second time in program history and first since Sept. 20, 2009, the Tigers equalized in the 14th minute through forward Lily Byrne's second goal of the season.
Having turned away a Colorado College attempt after just 45 seconds, Dorvillier made two more saves to keep the matchup tied entering the break. She stopped the Tigers once more in the 69th before Reedy found the game-winning goal 14 minutes from full time with junior midfielder Sidra Bugsch earning her first assist of the season.
With Cal Poly outshot, 14-9, Dorvillier recorded three saves in the final three minutes – the last occurring with six seconds remaining in regulation – to preserve the lead.
Cal Poly returns home to host Gonzaga on Friday, Sept. 10, opening a two-game home stand with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
