First-Place Cal Poly Visits Hawai’i Thursday, UC Davis Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO – With six points from its opening two Big West matches, the Cal Poly women's soccer program plays its first conference road matches of the season when visiting Hawai'i on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 10 p.m. PT and UC Davis on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. The Big West's highest scoring program and ranked 45th among 335 NCAA Division I programs with 23 goals, Cal Poly (6-5-0, 2-0-0) grabbed an early share of first place atop the Big West standings after defeating Cal State Fullerton, 3-2 (Sept. 23), and UC Riverside, 3-0 (Sept. 26). Playing just its fourth road match of the season versus Hawai'i (0-6-1, 0-2-0), Cal Poly faces a Rainbow Wahine side that has been outscored 22-5 to begin the year. After opening the season with a scoreless home draw against North Texas, Hawai'i has dropped six straight. Sharing first place in the Big West table alongside Cal Poly and Long Beach State (5-4-1, 2-0-0), UC Davis (7-3-0, 2-0-0) enters its Thursday afternoon home matchup against UC Santa Barbara having won five successive decisions. The Aggies are the Big West's second highest scoring program with 19 goals.

CAL POLY VERSUS HAWAI'I: Cal Poly is unbeaten in seven of eight matchups against Hawai'i since the Rainbow Wahine joined the Big West Conference ahead of the 2012 season and has won twice and drawn twice at Waipi'o Soccer Complex – including a 7-2 triumph on Oct. 4, 2015. Cal Poly earned 1-1 draws during its last two visits to Hawai'i on Oct. 24, 2019 and Oct. 22, 2017 and leads the all-time series, 7-1-2.
CAL POLY VERSUS UC DAVIS: Cal Poly has prevailed against UC Davis just once in its last six meetings, edging the Aggies on the road, 1-0 (Oct. 13, 2019). The Mustangs lead the all-time series, 10-6-2.
TRUCCO SETS THE SCORING PACE … : The Big West Conference's second leading scorer – alongside teammate Camille Lafaix – with five goals, sophomore forward Nikki Trucco surpassed her 2019, three-goal total after just six matches. Including the 17th-minute opener at Seattle (Sept. 19), Trucco has scored four times in Cal Poly's last eight matches. Also ranked fourth in the Big West with a team leading 28 shot attempts after recording a season best five versus Saint Mary's (Aug. 22) and UC Riverside (Sept. 26), Trucco has started 10 of 11 games for Cal Poly in 2021.
… AND LAFAIX FOLLOWS: With all five of her goals coming in Cal Poly's last five games, two-time Big West Offensive Player of the Week honoree and sophomore midfielder Camille Lafaix ranks second in the Big West – alongside teammate Nikki Trucco – in scoring. Also second in the Big West with 13 points and fourth – with teammate Olivia Ortiz – with three assists, Lafaix produced her second career two-goal match in Cal Poly's 3-2 overtime win against Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 23). Lafaix, who has placed 12 of 18 shot attempts on target, has started in 10 of 11 matches this season.
DORVILLIER IN FRAME: Ranked second among Big West goalkeepers with 48 saves and 885 minutes played and third with 4.80 saves per match and a .750 save percentage, junior Ava Dorvillier earned her first shutout of the season during Cal Poly's 5-0 win against San Jose State (Sept. 12). Dorvillier recorded a career best nine saves against Gonzaga (Sept. 10) after chalking up seven against No. 24 Stanford (Aug. 19), at Colorado College (Sept. 5) and at Seattle (Sept. 19).
SUPER SUB: Cal Poly's second leading scorer with three goals, all of freshman Kate Reedy's strikes have come in reserve appearances with the midfielder finding the back of the net against Sacramento State (Aug. 29), the game-winner at Colorado College (Sept. 5) and the second of a 3-0 victory versus UC Riverside (Sept. 26). Reedy, with just 38.8 minutes per appearance, is averaging a goal every 142 minutes.
UP NEXT (OCT. 7 AND 10): Cal Poly opens its final regular season home stand – a three-game stretch – when hosting CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. and CSUN on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 12 noon. Cal Poly's matchup against CSU Bakersfield (1-8-1, 0-1-0) marks its first Big West meeting against the Roadrunners, who joined the conference in 2020. Versus CSUN (2-10-0, 1-1-0), Cal Poly seeks just its second win against the Matadors in the last seven meetings.
