STUMP INVITATIONAL RESULTS
DAVIS, Calif. -- Jake Ritter and William Fallini-Haas finished two-three to lead the Cal Poly men's cross country team to the season-opening Stump Invitational title on Friday at Wildhorse Golf Course.
The Mustangs won the men's 8K with 30 points, outrunning UC Santa Barbara (47), host UC Davis and four other schools.
On the women's side, Cal Poly placed fifth among eight schools. The host UC Aggies scored 23 team points for first place, well ahead of UC San Diego's runner-up total of 94.
Ritter, the two-time defending Big West Conference champion, posted a time of 23 minutes, 9.6 seconds, finishing behind only Nick Randazzo of UC Santa Barbara by 13.6 seconds, while Fallini-Haas placed third in 23:18.5.
Also finishing in the top 10 for Coach Mark Conover's Mustangs were Anthony Guerra, sixth in 23:27.6, and Aidan McCarthy, eighth in 23:44.9.
Spencer Thurman completed Cal Poly's scoring with an 11th-place finish, timed in 23:53.6, giving the Mustangs five finishers in the top 11.
Cal Poly has won four straight and 17 of the last 22 Big West Conference men's team championships.
UC Davis placed its top five runners in the in the top nine finishing positions en route to the women's team title.
Ruby Smee of San Francisco earned top individual honors with a time of 19:47.5 for 6,000 meters, about 10 seconds ahead of Aggie Sierra Atkins. UC Davis runners finished 2-3-4-6-9 overall.
Cal Poly's lead runner was Sierra Brill with a fifth-place finish in 21:10.5.
Other scoring Mustangs were Schuyler Gooley as she placed 18th in 20:53.6, Hailey Golmon in 25th place in 21:10.5, Elise Boisvert in 41st place in 21:41.7; and Claudia Miller in 44th place in 21:46.1.
Cal Poly will compete in the Dellinger Invitational on Sept. 23 at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Oregon.
