
Cal Poly Tops Westmont in Saturday Exhibition, 4-0

MONTECITO – Midfielder McKenna Carbon and fellow freshman Kate Reedy found the back of the net inside the opening three minutes and sophomore forward Nikki Trucco (above) and junior midfielder Megan Hansen notched late second half goals as the Cal Poly women's soccer program defeated NAIA Westmont in a Saturday afternoon exhibition at Thorrington Field, 4-0.
Carbon recorded the eventual decisive goal for Cal Poly 30 seconds after kickoff, scoring on a breakaway.
Cal Poly, which opened its 2021 training camp on Tuesday, then went up 2-0 in the third minute as senior midfielder Grace Park crossed for Reedy.
The Mustangs added their third goal in the 81st minute as Trucco rounded Westmont's goalkeeper near the top of the penalty area before scoring into an empty net.
Hansen cemented the 4-0 result in the 90th minute, scoring in a crowded penalty area following a Mustang corner.
Starting in goal for Cal Poly, freshman Lindsay Kellogg recorded three saves.
Cal Poly enjoys one more exhibition on Wednesday, Aug. 11 when hosting Fresno State in a 6 p.m. tuneup at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. Following the program's annual Green vs. White intrasquad match on Saturday, Aug. 14, Cal Poly opens the regular season when welcoming No. 24 Stanford on Thursday, Aug. 19.
