Adam Finishes in Top 40, Cal Poly Places 25th in The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif. -- Luke Adam earned a top-40 finish and Cal Poly climbed a notch in the final standings at The Goodwin men's golf tournament hosted by Stanford on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course.
Adam posted his second round of 70 on the 6,727-yard, par-70 course, finishing with a four-over-par 214 total and a tie for 39th place with two other golfers in the field of 28 teams and 146 golfers. The St. Joseph High School (Santa Maria) graduate carded four birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey.
Austin Liu closed with a three-under-par 67 for a 222 total, climbing 49 spots into a tie for 82nd place. His final-round card included five birdies on the back nine and six total along with three bogeys.
Cal Poly's other finishers were Tanner Podres with a 77 for a 228 total and 127th place, and Will Draper with a 74 for a 232 aggregate and 137th place.
As a team, Cal Poly moved up one spot on the leaderboard into a tie for 25th place with UC Davis, both carding four-person 54-hole 888 totals. Cal Poly compiled a 288 total Saturday, its lowest of the three-day event.
Arizona State claimed the team title with a 15-under-par 825 total, eight shots ahead of runner-up Stanford. Pepperdine was another nine shots back in third place.
Blake Hathcoat of Saint Mary's and Sam Harned of Nevada shared medalist honors with 10-under-par 200 totals. Hathcoat recorded a final-round 68 and Harned a 67. Tom Gueant of Oregon was third at minus-nine.
Adam finished tied for 11th in par-3 scoring at even par and his 37 pars was No. 6 in the field.
Cal Poly returns to action April 5-6 at the Wyoming Classic, to be played at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
