NAPA – Fueled by sophomore Nolan Kuszyk’s final-round, six-under 66 for a fifth-place overall finish, four Cal Poy men’s golfers finished inside the top 30 at Central Michigan’s Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational during Tuesday’s third round as the Mustangs – as a team – were sixth in the team standings.
At the par-72, 6,859-yard Silverado Resort North Course, Kuszyk’s 66 – the lowest round by a Mustang this season – included seven birdies against one bogey. Improving 19 spots on the leaderboard during the final round, Kuszyk (above) posted a seven-under 209 (70-73-66).
Freshman Rafael Bobo-Lloret – the reigning Big West Golfer of the Month honoree – produced three birdies Tuesday as part of a three-under 213 (70-72-71) and a 23rd-place showing.
Graduate student Kyle Dougherty managed four birdies Tuesday, matching Bobo-Lloret with a final-round 71. He finished a shot behind in 27th with a two-under 214 (70-73-71).
Junior Jack Jarvis also carded a 71 Tuesday with five birdies. He finished 30th with a one-under 215 (74-70-71).
Competing as an independent, junior Leo Metzger collected four birdies Tuesday for his lowest round of the tournament: even-par 72. Metzger was 61st at seven-over 223 (77-74-72). Senior Sean Lehman, meanwhile, was 77th (75-76-85).
As a team, Cal Poly’s collective final-round, nine-under 279 marked the program’s lowest round of the tournament. The Mustangs, however, finished the day where they started and closed play with a 13-under 851 (284-288-279).
Following a travel day, Cal Poly opens Stanford’s The Goodwin on Thursday, March 26. Action at Stanford Golf Club continues with 18 holes apiece on Friday and Saturday.
