
Stater Garners Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors

SAN LUIS OBIPSO, Calif. — After taking down Pepperdine's top singles player during last week's match against the Waves, Cal Poly men's tennis redshirt junior Alex Stater has been named the Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.
This is Stater's second career Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor.
Playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup for the first time, Stater took down Pepperdine's Adrian Oetzbach in a three-set battle. He won by scores of 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
With the win, Stater improved his season record to a team-leading 6-1 and has won four matches in a row.
Stater and partner Gary Vardanyan also took on Pietro Fellin and Daniel DeJonge in a close clash at No. 3 doubles, with the Wave duo ultimately prevailing, 6-4. The Mustangs ended up losing the match by a narrow 4-3 margin.
After playing its first seven matches of the season on the road, Cal Poly will face Santa Clara in its home opener Saturday at 12 p.m. at Mustang Tennis Complex.
